The suspense surrounding Megastar Chiranjeevi’s next was finally cleared by the actor himself on Wednesday. With work on Vedalam remake too going on full-swing for the past four months, many believed that the actor will give preference to it after he wraps up Acharya. But he is commencing Lucifer remake after Sankranti.
Earlier, directors like Sujeeth Sign and VV Vinayak worked extensively on the script of Lucifer but their tweaks didn’t impress Chiru much. Later, Mohan Raja, who made a career out of remaking Telugu films in Tamil, was approached by producer NV Prasad, and it seems his work pleased the megastar. “The Telugu script work of Lucifer remake has been finalized. Mohan Raja has tailored the script to suit our nativity and gave me a good narration. We will go to sets after Sankranti. The shoot will be wrapped up by April. My close associate NV Prasad, who has been waiting to make a film with me for long, is producing it,” the Megastar said on Wednesday.
NV Prasad said the film will be made on a large scale without compromising on the budget. Mohan Raja recalled that he was an assistant on the sets of Chiranjeevi-starrer Hitler and expressed his happiness on landing Lucifer remake. The project will be Raja’s second Telugu directorial after the box-office smash Hanuman Junction (2001). He later got busy in Tamil, successfully remaking Telugu hits like Jayam, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, Kick and Azad. His original screenplay, Thani Oruvan, which he also directed, won the appreciation of critics and audiences alike and made him, shed the ‘remake raja’ tag. Ram Charan remade the film as Dhruva.
Released last year, the Malayalam original told the story of the political vacuum that arises when the leader of the ruling party passes away. In the inevitable succession squabble and the power struggle that ensues, his adopted son, the mysterious Stephen (played by Mohanlal), steps in and faces challenges in all spheres of life.
