Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari has said an action plan will be prepared to mitigate the drinking water problems in the summer. She also announced her intention to make Visakhapatnam a pollution-free city. “I will also conduct a ‘Dial your Mayor’ programme every so often to solve people’s problems and issues,” she said.
Addressing her maiden press conference here on Friday, the Mayor said she will focus on the development of infrastructure and amenities in coordination with officials. She said it was an unexpected moment in her life when she became mayor of the city. “I never imagined that I would become the mayor and expressed gratitude to all those who helped her become once from a homemaker,” Venkata Kumari said.
“I am indebted to Chief Minister Ys Jagan Mohan Reddy who made me as the mayor. The Chief Minister is according top priority to women empowerment in the state. As a part of it, majority of corporation mayors and municipal chairpersons posts went to women,” she explained. The mayor was excited by the support extended to her by voters who elected her with a huge margin. She said 49 women were elected as GVMC corporators.
Referring to the property tax hike, she said they will ensure that there will not be any burden on poor people. Kumari said she owed Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy and MP MVV Sathyanarayana and Tourism Minister M Srinivasa Rao for giving her the responsible position to serve people.
Earlier during an informal chat with media persons at her residence, the Mayor said the Mudasarlova Reservoir will be given a facelift and steps in this regard will be taken in consultation with officials concerned to strengthen the water storage capacity of the reservoir. She said the Mudasarlova park in 100 acres will be made as a star attraction of the city. She said there are no community halls in several colonies and steps will be taken in this connection. A rythu bazaar will be set up at Arilova.
