Make a delightful chocolate mug cake in times of lockdown


With this lockdown being extended again, we sure miss our choice of desserts in our local cafes. Here’s a quick recipe to make this decadent chocolate mug cake at home. P.S. it’s a single serving, so you don’t even have to share it with others.

Mug cakes are savoury or sweet single-serve dishes that are easy to make and extremely filling as a snack. Savour this chocolatey-goodness-in-a-cup while binge-watching your favourite show, or reading your favourite book!

Ingredients you will need:
2 tbsp of butter
4 tbsp of milk
2 tbsp of cocoa powder
2 tbsp of maida/atta
4 tbsp of sugar
2 drops of vanilla extract
1 tsp (or more) of Nutella
A pinch of coffee powder

Melt the butter in a microwavable mug (or bowl) and mix the milk into it.
Mix in the vanilla extract, sugar, cocoa powder, maida, coffee powder and Nutella into it.
Check if the consistency is like cake batter (not too thick, not too thin). If not, add in a little milk.
Put the mug into the microwave and set the time to 2 minutes. Increase by intervals of 30 seconds if not cooked fully.

Your Chocolate Mug Cake is ready!

-You can push in a chunk of cooking chocolate in the middle of the batter for a Choco Lava Cake.
-You can add in a little peanut butter for a nutty taste.
-Lesser sugar results in a more bitter taste, so if you’re a dark chocolate fan, then try that.
