Life And Career of Maysoon Zayid:
She started her action career with the popular soap As The World Turns for two years. She also did guest appearances in Law and Order, NBC Nightly News, ABC’s 20/20. She found her disability during the early stages of her acting life which had limited her advancements in her career. She then thought of changing her career and turned to a stand-up comedian. She began doing stand-up comedy skits in some of the top New York city clubs where she took some serious topics likes terrorism and Israel-Palestine conflicts.
She is the co-founder of the New York Arab-American Comedy Festival. Dean Obeidallah is the other founder. She brings lightening to the stage with her brilliant wit and poise.
She shows us her condition with cerebral palsy by balancing humour with a serious message as a result she makes it very much powerful.
In her words “People with disabilities are the largest minority in the world, and we are the most underrepresented in entertainment.”
Maysoon Zayid always catches the pulse of the audience. She makes her script but depends very much in public speaking. She’s complete with her audience and asks them to participate, rather than just doing her speech at them. She asks them to cheer and clap, responds to their reaction and if you just look where she sits on stage, it’s like she’s sitting in the audience. All these make it a talk that’s truly alive.
She described herself in a BBC interview as a Palestinian Muslim girl with cerebral palsy.
