Mock Drill- a Real Time Rescue and Relief Operations Organised

Waltair Division organized mock drill, a real-time relief and rescue operations today 16.11.2021 at Simhachalam Station Yard in the morning from 09.15hrs to 12.30 hrs. Under the guidance of the Divisional Railway Manager– Shri Anup Satpathy, the Safety Department lead by Shri Sakya Acharya, Sr.Divisional Safety Officer, conducted the relief operations on real time basis. Two coaches of a pilgrim special were derailed at the Simhachalam yard and rescue operations were carried out with men and material.

More than 200 railway employees from various Departments viz., Operations, Commercial, Mechanical, Medical, Security, Signal & Telecom, Civil Engineering, Traction Distribution, Electrical and Personnel, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Civil Administration instantaneously rose to the situation for rescuing the passengers in the affected coaches, carrying relief operations and ultimately restoring the normalcy of the track for swift movement of traffic. ADRM (infra) Shri Sudhir Kumar Gupta and other branch officers took part in the mock drill.

Mock drill is an exercise to check preparedness of the Railway Personnel to meet the eventualities and for rescuing the passengers with simultaneous relief operations. The exercise is replica for actual operation at the time of such incidents.

The National Disaster Response Force, with the latest equipments, participated to make aware of all the frontline service personnel to have an exercise to tackle situation. Under the command of Inspector/10th NDRF command – Shri Probin Phukan with a fleet of 26 NDRF personnel involved in the operation. The Railway Protection Special Force besides the RPF, State Police, Civil Defense personnel joined in the rescue and relief operations.

The print and electronic media responded spontaneously and witnessed the relief and rescue operations. Speaking on the occasion DRM Shri Anup Satpathy said, it is a drill to check preparedness of all the departments to react in disaster and to develop communication skills as well as coordination. Such drills will continue to keep them ready to meet any odd situations, he said.
