In a bid to improve road safety, prevent robberies and to save precious lives on the Ghat roads, the Vizag district police came forward with a novel idea to install several CCTV cameras at strategic locations in the agency areas for constant surveillance.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of the Chintapalle region Ch. Vidhya Sagar Naidu said CCTV cameras would serve as a deterrent and help bring down crimes in remote areas. Earlier CCTV cameras were installed but was not disclosed due to security reasons.
If one can remember in the recent past, ghat road had witnessed a series of robberies since January this year. Many tourists and commuters were targeted by gang members from the border areas of AP and Odisha and fled with valuables after threatening them with country-made guns. Two men from Odisha who were allegedly involved in the robberies on the ghat road have been arrested by the GK Veedhi police. The remaining gang members are yet to be arrested for their role in these robberies, police officials said.
