Spike in Covid-19 positive cases continued as 104 new cases were recorded in Visakhapatnam district for the sixth day on Monday compared to 167 cases on Sunday. Active cases have increased to 980 as against 913 on Sunday. About 36 people were discharged on Monday against 20 people on Sunday. With this total number of people discharged till now went up to 60,248.
One person died due to the virus on Monday, according to AMC principal and Covid-19 special officer Dr PV Sudhakar in a press statement here on Sunday said no new cases were reported from Andhra University on Monday. He said Covid-19 tests will be done for those in quarantine and if they test negative, they will be discharged.
District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) PS Suryanarayana said most of the new cases were reported from Madhurawada, Simhachalam and Arilova. A majority of these cases are contact persons of positive cases. He said as many 16,000 people have been vaccinated in the district. He said there was an increase in the number of vaccination as a trial run was conducted at 30 Sachivalayas. He said they were expecting more people to turn up for vaccination and were planning to recruit more health personnel, if necessary. He said after the imposition of fines there has been some discipline among people.
Meanwhile, the police are continuing their special drive on Monday to ensure people wear face masks during the period. Now the police are issuing online challans for not wearing face masks. DIG Vizag range LKV Ranga Rao conducted awareness among people about CAB at Ring Road, Four road Junction and APSRTC complex at Anakapalle on Monday.
