The long-awaited and much-needed Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) project being undertaken under the Smart City initiative of GVMC will become operational very soon going by the progress it’s making. The MLCP project was contemplated by the Police department and GVMC.

The foundation stone for the project has been laid on the 9th of January 2019. According to senior officials of the Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited (GVDCCL), a Delhi based private company is taking up the project, which will have (G+5) MLCP on 360 meters area near Jadadamba Junction. The parking facility will be fully computerized and mechanical and can accommodate about 100 cars.

Vizag city witnessing rapid growth in vehicle population for the last 10 ten years. As per the traffic police statistics, every year, approximately about 1.5 lakh vehicles are being added. With more vehicles plying on the road and no parking facility at several shopping complexes and commercial establishments, people are forced to park their cars and bike on the roadsides resulting in chaos.

While the review the progress of many smart city projects on Friday, GVMC Commissioner, directed the officials of the Smart City wing to engage more workers to complete the MLCP project within a month enable to go for a trial run. She also said more parking facilities will be set up for the public if GVMC finds empty spaces in the city limits.

The police department is saying the need of the hour is to bring more awareness among people to park only in parking areas, before the opening of MLCP facility. Of course, parking space is available in the Jagadamba area, but very few use it. We have to observe how the public will make use of the MLCP facility.
