While the first Multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility being set up by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is getting ready at jagadamba and will be thrown open to the general public in few weeks of time, another MLCP project-cum-commercial complex will be coming up at Siripuram by the end of 2022 as a part of the Smart City project. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this project has been prepared by the officials of AP Urban Infrastructure. The 11-floor MLCP will be set up by Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA).
Three companies have successfully participated in the filing bids after following the due tendering process last month. Sources privy to the news of the final bidder for the MLCP project-cum-commercial complex is a prominent construction company based in Andhra Pradesh only. Authorities are yet to declare the information about the same. The MLCP project-cum-commercial complex project being set up at an estimated cost of Rs. 80 crores is aimed at meeting future needs and can accommodate 700 cars and 800 two-wheelers in five floors. The design proposed for this project will be to accommodate in five floors, including three-floored cellars and the remaining floors will be accommodated exclusively for commercial purpose.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, VMRDA Commissioner P. Koteswara Rao said, this will be one of the big parking infrastructure ever constructed in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It will ease the congestion in a place like Siripuram junction. The DPR for the project has been prepared by the officials of AP Urban Infrastructure. The works for the project will start by the first week of April if everything goes well according to our plans. Stating further, Mr. Rao said, we envisioned the project by keeping the future needs, especially Siripuram being a major junction, houses VMRDA complex, VMRDA Children’s Arena, Gurajada Kalakshetram, HSBC, and a few others. During any programs, people coming to Children’s Arena, Kalakshetram, and a few establishments are forced to park their vehicles beside the road which is leading to traffic congestions.
With the rapid urbanization and gradual increase in the commercial establishments and expansion of the city, the problem of parking will surely shot up in the next few years. Being a busty locality, we have incorporated some floors for commercial purpose and we hope they will go good in the auctions after the project finishes,” he said. According to VMRDA Commissioner, the completion of the project will take place at least one-and-a-half years once it kick-starts. Nevertheless, with the availability of present latest technology, it is also possible to finish within a year, he said.
