While the first Multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility being set up by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is getting ready at Jagadamha and will be thrown open to the general public in few weeks of time, another MLCP project-cum-commercial complex will be coming up at Siripuram by the end of 2022 as a part of the Smart City project.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the new MLCP project-cum-commercial complex being set up by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) at Siripuram is in the final stage and most probably tendering process is likely to begin at the end of this year.
The MLCP project-cum-commercial complex project being set up at an estimated cost of Rs. 80 crores is aimed at meeting future needs and can accommodate 450 cars and 500 two-wheelers in five floors. As per the design proposed, parking will be accommodated in five floors, including three-floored cellars (G-1, G-2, G-3). All five floors will be accommodated exclusively for commercial purpose.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, VMRDA Commissioner P. Koteswara Rao said, it’s yet another good step to ease the congestion in a place like Siripuram junction. The DPR for the project has been prepared by the officials of AP Urban Infrastructure. Floating of tenders will be done by the end of this month and it will be finalized very soon. The works for the project will start by the first week of February if everything goes well according to our plans.
Stating further, Mr. Rao said, we envisioned the project by keeping the future needs, especially Siripuram being a major junction, houses VMRDA complex, VMRDA Children’s Arena, Gurajada Kalakshetram, HSBC, and a few others. During any programs, people coming to Children’s Arena, Kalakshetram, and a few establishments are forced to park their vehicles beside the road which is leading to traffic congestions.
With the rapid urbanization and gradual increase in the commercial establishments and expansion of the city, the problem of parking will surely shot up in the next few years. Being a busty locality, we have incorporated some floors for commercial purpose and we hope they will go good in the auctions after the project finishes,” he said.
According to VMRDA Commissioner, the completion of the project will take place at least one-and-a-half years once it kick-starts. Nevertheless, with the availability of present latest technology, it is also possible to finish within a year, he said.
