Leading choreographer Jani’s maiden film as an actor was launched in Hyderabad on Monday, with VV Vinayak sounding the clapper-board for the first shot. Being made under Suji Visuals by Vizag-based Venkata Ramana, the film, a romantic-action entertainer, marks the directorial debut of Murali Raj Tiyanna, while Digangana Suryavanshi plays the female lead.
Speaking after the muhurat formalities, Jani said that he even doesn’t have an answer on why he is making the transition to acting. “My first priority is choreography. I was supervising a song on Siva Karthikeyan in Chennai and I had to postpone it to noon (Monday) to attend the muhurat. Initially, I said I won’t attend it but the producer insisted. Murali was after me for the past 45 days as I was busy with my work.
When I finally wanted to know what he wanted from me, he said he was looking to introduce me as a hero. I told him, ‘I’m more interested in choreography and direction than acting’. He pleaded with me to allot five minutes of my time to hear the story. He narrated it in 20 minutes and I liked it immensely,” the star choreographer, whose bona fides include Mee Intiki Mundhu (from Julayi), Freedom (Yevadu), Cinema Choopista Maava (Race Gurram), and Sundari (Khaidi No 150) among others, said. He added that there were many people including his wife who were concerned about his decision to act, especially with his choreography career going great guns.
“Initially, I was scared, to begin with, but instead of attending TV shows when there are no choreography assignments, I decided that I would shoot for the film. That’s it,” he pointed out in a modest tone. Digangana pointed out that the untitled film has a brilliant script and she is excited about Jani’s master’s debut.
