Astronauts from NASA return to Earth as the SpaceX Dragon capsule splashes down in the Gulf of Mexico. This is NASA’s launch after almost a decade, last time the mission was carried out in 2011. Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley were launched into space over two months ago. Their flight was the first one through a commercially built spacecraft and departed from the International Space Station on Saturday evening and reached the Florida coast at 2.:48 p.m. ET.
After the scorched capsule was lifted onto the recovery ship, the crew members in the personal protective gear opened the hatch. Behnken appeared from the capsule and gave a thumbs up while Hurley was heard thanking everyone who participated in the mission. He also added that ‘ Anybody who has touched the endeavour should take a moment to cherish this day, especially given after all the things that have happened this year’.
NASA press release said that the Astronauts had returned to NASA Johnson Space Center to reunite with their families. And for the first time in history, a commercial company entrusted to carry NASA astronauts to and from the International Space Station and has successfully taken humans to orbit and back on the world’s most advanced rocket and spacecraft.
