The Vizianagaram district in the state of Andhra Pradesh has bagged the national award in water conservation among the aspirational district in the country for the year 2019. The Union Ministry of Jal Shakti department and water and power consultancy services (WAP-COS) on Tuesday announced the award and informed the same to Collector M Hari Jawaharlal.
In a press statement issued here, the collector said that cleaning of all ponds in the Fort town did the trick initially. Responding to his call, voluntary organizations, student union, employees’ associations, and resident welfare associations’ (RWAs) came forward in a big way.
About 22 tanks were renovated in Vizianagaram. They had developed the neglected ponds into mini-parks. For the time being, the district administration has prepared an action plan to renovate as many as 1,500 tanks in the district in a phased manner with the support of the people.12:10 PM
