Agriculture Minister and District in-charge minister K Kanna Babu on Wednesday said 6,000 Covid tests were being conducted in the district a day. Speaking at a review meeting on the Covid-19 situation in the district with officials at VMRDA Children’s Arena here on Wednesday, Kanna babu said that hospitals treating COVID-19 patients must be equipped with a concrete action plan to treat the patients by having help desks and by maintaining good sanitation.
For proper dissemination of proper communication, hospitals should have a special officer. At the same time, the managements should also facilitate treatment for patients coming for admission in emergency situations, he said. The minister also directed the management of Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) should act responsibly and should ensure that family members of patients receive information regarding their health conditions.
Kanna Babu said since cases are increasing in the Agency areas, 18 centres were set up to conduct Trunat tests from Thursday. Apart from Covid care centres at Paderu and Araku, another centre will be set up at Chintapalle.
Strict action will be taken on those indulging in hoarding or black marketing of Remdesivir injection and hospitals will not be spared for overcharging more than the prescribed rate for the injections, Mr Kanna babu said. There is a stock of 7,072 Remdesivir injections in the district, including 4,290 in private hospitals,” he said.
Collector V Vinay Chand apprised the minister that there are 6,763 beds in the hospitals in the district including 1,047 oxygen ICU beds, 780 ventilator beds and 2,788 oxygen beds and 2,939 without oxygen and 716 ventilators. There are 61 Covid hospitals, and 18 more empanelled hospitals will be opened soon. He said beds should be ensured for everyone who is in need.
For arogyasri patients, Rs 2,500 will be charged for the injection and for normal patients, it will be Rs 3,490. He said 104 service in Visakhapatnam was among the best in the state and 30 ambulances were attached to 104 services to meet the requirement. A committee led by the AMC principal was conducting interviews to recruit health staff.
