Netflix announces Telugu anthology Pitta Kathalu

Netflix on Wednesday announced its first Telugu original, Pitta Kathalu, a four-part anthology directed by young and talent makers Nandini Reddy, Nag Ashwin, Tharun Bhascker and Sankalp Reddy. The drama narrates the stories of four different women played by Lakshmi Manchu, Amala Paul, Shruti Haasan and Eesha Rebba, while the likes of Jagapathi Babu, Satyadev, Ashima Narwal, Saanve Megghana and Sanjith Hegde round off the main cast.

Produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and Ashi Dua Sara’s Flying Unicorn Entertainment, Pitta Kathalu will drop on the streaming giant on 19th February. On collaborating with Netflix, Bhasker, who has directed Ramula, spearheaded by Lakshmi Manchu, said Pitta Kathalu is a labour of love, with every story in the anthology showcasing a beautiful landscape of the country! He assured that the women-led stories will touch a chord with the audience. “It is time for regional Indian content to shine on the global stage,” he said.

For Nandini, collaborating with Netflix and the accomplished cast of Pitta Kathulu has been a very rewarding experience. She noted that working with gifted directors who sought to travel on newer paths of storytelling helped them bring forth authentic human stories with a fresh take on relationships. She directed Meera, top-lined by Jagapathi Babu, Amala Paul and Aswin Kakamanu.

Nag Ashwin, who directed xLife, starring Shruti Haasan, Sanjith Hegde, Sangeet Shobhan and Anish Kuruvilla, said, “With this being the first Telugu original by Netflix, I really wanted to push the boundaries of what people expect from the medium. I hope the four unique worlds we have created will connect with people, not just in the Telugu speaking states but across the world.”
