After the desecration of the Lord Ram idol at Ramatheertham triggered a massive political uproar in Andhra Pradesh, new idols of Lord Rama, Lakshman and Seetha were on Thursday installed in a makeshift temple. The installation was done amidst chanting of Vedic hymns and following the rituals.
Ramateertham is located in Nellimarla in the Vizianagaram district. The idol of Lord Rama at Sri Kodandarama temple atop Bodikonda was desecrated in the last week of December. The incident drew the attention of the entire nation with Opposition parties demanding severe action against the culprits.
The government had then asked Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams to make idols and send them within a month. The government also sanctioned Rs 3 crore for the development of the temple. As per the instructions, the idols of Sita Rama Lakshmana were brought to Ramateertham on January 25 and pujas were performed for three days. On Thursday, the idols were installed in Baalaalayam (makeshift temple) and priests performed all rituals and pujas.
Joint commissioner of endowment D Bhramaramba said that the pujas would be continued in Baalalayam till the completion of construction and renovation of the temple atop Bodikonda Hill. Professor A Srinivasacharyulu of Venkateswara Vedic University, executive officer of Ramateertha temple Ch Ranga Rao and others participated in the program. A large number of devotees were also present and took part in the pujas.
