Chief secretary Nilam Sawhney, who is set to retire from the government services this month-end, has been appointed as the Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister with cabinet rank. Orders to this effect have been issued by the government on Tuesday. As Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nilam Sawhney, will look to monitor Health and Covid-19 management, Centre-State relations, and bifurcation issues.
She will also look after administrative reforms including the strengthening of Village / Ward Secretariats and other Institutions at various levels in the district, District Reorganisation, land resurvey and titling Act, etc.
Apart from this, she will also take up subjects and projects as allocated by the Chief Minister from time to time. Nilam had set the record of being the first woman CS of the state. In undivided Andhra Pradesh, too only two women IAS officials Sathi Nair and Minnie Mathew made it to the top post. She had become CA after the unceremonious shunting out of the then chief secretary, LV Subramanyam from the CMO. Nilam Sawhney had successfully completed her stint of more than a year without any differences with the CM. She had also got six months extension in two tranches.
