Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar to be continued as the election commissioner of Andhra Pradesh- High court, AP

On Friday, the Andhra Pradesh High Court reserved its verdict on petitions filed against the ordinance promulgated by the government of the state amending the AP Panchayat Raj Act, which changed the tenure and eligibility of the State Election Commissioner (SEC).

The high court found fault in his dismissal and ordered the government to continue Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar as the election commissioner.

This is a major blow to the government of Andhra Pradesh, which has dismissed Nimmagadda Prasad from his post after his unilateral decision to postpone the local body elections.Despite the argument of advocate general s Sriram that the state government has every right to promogulate the ordinance and the amends are in accordance with the law, the high court , however dismissed the governments trials on the possibility of suspension.
