District Collector V Vinay Chand said there are 6,558 beds in both private and government hospitals in the district. There are 1,022 ICU beds, 2,650 non-ICU oxygen beds, non-ICU-oxygen beds 2,896 and 710 ventilators available in the district, the collector said.
He said 500 medical staff have been posted at VIMS and vacancies at KGH, RCD Hospital, and chest hospital were filled. He added that 23 data entry operators were also recruited. The Collector said there was no shortage of oxygen in the district. He said 5,000 Covid-19 tests were being done at 72 PHCs under GVMC limits each day. He said four lakh people were given the first dose of the Covishield vaccine, of them 59,000 took the second dose.
Meanwhile, Visakhapatnam district recorded 500 plus new Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day on Monday. As many as 565 cases were reported on this day. There were 4,313 active cases on Monday against 4,062 cases on Sunday. As many as 312 patients were discharged on Monday, taking the total number of recoveries to 64,128. Two more people died on the day, according to AMC principal Dr PV Sudhakar in a statement here on Monday.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister M Srinivasa Rao said the State government was fully prepared to check the spread of coronavirus and steps were being taken in this regard. Speaking to the media persons after a review meeting on Covid-19 control, the minister urged people to follow Covid-19 guidelines. He asked them to wear face masks and maintain social distancing and use sanitisers regularly.
