As expected the dubbed Telugu version of Tamil superstar Vijay-starrer Master, directed by Khaidi fame Lokesh Kanagaraj, will release for Sankranti — January 13. The announcement was made on Tuesday by producer Mahesh S Koneru who snatched the rights of the film last December. It came minutes after Master original production house XB Film Creators officially announced the Tamil release on January 13.
While Vijay has consolidated his Telugu market after his last, Whistle, did a business of Rs 10 crore (it was bought by Mahesh for Rs 7 cr), Master, however, faces stiff competition from other releases like Krack, Red, and Alludu Adhurs in terms of revenue and in theatre allocations. Mahesh is confident of giving the film a wide release though.
“Get ready for #Master .. Jan 13th! Special Pongal treat. Massive release across the Telugu States. Special thanks to @actorvijay sir for the trust,” he posted on Twitter. He acquired the dubbing rights for a price of Rs 8.75 crore, making it the highest amount for a Vijay film to date. In a first for a Vijay film, the producer purchased the rights of the project while it was still on floors.
An action-thriller set in the backdrop of a college, Master sees Malavika Mohanan of Petta fame as the leading lady, while Vijay Sethupathi will be seen as Vijay’s bête noire. The likes of Andrea Jeremiah, Gouri Kishan (who played the younger version of Trisha in ’96), Jallikattu actor Antony Varghese, Shantanu Bhagyaraj, Sriman, and Brigida have played supporting roles.
