Throwing Telangana’s weight behind the snowballing movement in Andhra Pradesh against the Centre’s decision to privatise the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), TRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday pledged the full support of the TRS government for the agitating VSP employees and restive people of Andhra Pradesh.
While addressing an election meeting at Necklace Road here, KTR offered to “fight against the Visakha Steel Plant issue”. He also alleged that the Centre had been privatizing the steel plant, which the undivided AP had attained after a prolonged public movement charged with the slogan: ‘Visakha Ukku- Andhrula Hakku’.
Extending TRS’s support to the movement in AP, KTR offered to personally participate in the agitation in Vizag. It was everyone’s wish that the Vizag Steel Plant should not be privatized at any cost. Hence, the TRS party’s rank and file would extend support for the movement, he asserted.
Coming down heavily on the Modi government for its privatisation spree in the name of divesting public sector undertakings, KTR said: ” Going by this trend, one should not be surprised, if the state governments are privatized in future”. With due permission from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, I will shortly visit Vizag to take part in the agitation against the privatisation of Vizag Steel Plant, he added.
Attacking the centre for privatization spree of all the PSUs, KTR said, the need of the hour for both the states to look beyond state lines. Doubting the central government’s intended moves, he further said that after selling the Vizag Steel plant today, the next move may be BHEL tomorrow; and then next will be Singareni Collieries. We cannot turn blind eye to agitation in Vizag just by thinking the movement was somewhere in Vizag. If the times’ demands, Andhraites have to join hands with Telanganites if the Centre tries to sell public sector companies in Telangana,” he added.
