A 3-day Online National Training Programme on “Disaster Risk Reduction in Resilient Infrastructure” is being organized by Department of Civil Engineering, Andhra University College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam in association with National institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), New Delhi from September 30 – October 2, 2020.
The online training programme has been inaugurated by Prof. P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy, Vice Chancellor, Andhra University at 11 a.m. The event is being coordinated by Prof.
C.N.V. Satyanarayana Reddy, AU and Dr. Amir Ali Khan, NIDM. The programme has expert lectures on measures to be taken by civil engineers to reduce the risk to resilient Infrastructure (Key infrastructure such as high rise buildings of public importance, bridges, roads, railways, airports, dams etc.) against various disasters such as earthquake, Floods, Cyclonic winds, Fire and landslides. The event has technical sessions during 11a.m to 1.30pm on all three days.On first day of the programme, i.e., 30 th September 2020, Prof. C.V.R. Murty, IITMadras will deliver a lecture on the topic “Earthquake Resistant Infrastructure”. Prof. Pradeep Mujumdar, IISc., Bangalore will
deliver talk on “Urban Floods-An Evolving Challenge”.
On second day of the programme, i.e., 1 st October 2020, Dr. P. Hari Krishna, Chief Scientist, SERC, Chennai will deliver a talk on “Wind Disaster Mitigation for Infrastructure”. Prof. K. Srinivasa Rao,Andhra University will deliver a talk on “Influence of Concrete Characteristics on Heat Resistance –A Review” On third day of the event, i.e., 2 nd October 2020, Dr. Neelima Satyam, IIT Indore will give a lecture to address “Issues of Field Monitoring of Landslides”. Prof. G.L. Sivakumar Babu, IISc., Bangalore and President, Indian Geotechnical Society will deliver a talk on “Disaster Risk Analysis”.
More than 550 participants have registered for the event from different parts of country of which 220 are academicians, 125 are practicing engineers, 85 research scholars and 120 are PG students. Participants are from IITs, NITs, University Engineering colleges and other affiliated Engineering colleges of various universities of the country.
