Health experts are suggesting people opt for Covid Care Centre rather than rushing to the hospitals out of panic. After reports of people waiting in the queue at Covid-19 notified hospitals, health officials in Visakhapatnam said the patients having mild symptoms seem to be rushing to the hospitals due to panic.
“They can as well get admitted to the two Covid Centres which were opened in Visakhapatnam last year. The patients will get medical supervision, medicines and food. In case of emergency, an ambulance will shift them to hospital,” said the medical officer in charge for Covid Care Centres Dr Malladi S Sharma
Visakhapatnam has two centres – one at Mudasarlova and another at Bakkannapalem- which can accommodate over 1,600 patients. Mudasarlova opened on Sunday with all the facilities and as on date, 35 patients are being treated for mild symptoms. He said the Centres would be given them confidence that they are under medical supervision and will be shifted to a hospital in case of emergency.
“Under the present conditions, Covid Care Centre can find a bed for the patient which he cannot get on his own,” said another medical official. Citing an instance, the official said a 33-year-old patient from neighbouring state and living all alone in Vizag got admitted to a Covid Care Centre with mild symptoms. Hours later, his oxygen levels started falling. He was immediately shifted to VIMS in an ambulance and got admitted without much hassle.
