Now the peoples’ verdict is out in the open for municipal corporations and Nagar panchayats in Andhra Pradesh, which went to polls on March 10. It was YSRCP all the way! In an encore of its 2019 general elections performance, the party swept the elections to urban local bodies from Srikakulam to Anantapur- from North Andhra to Rayalaseema- putting paid to any hopes of the opposition TDP may have had of regaining some lost ground. The TSRCP emerged victorious in 74 out of 75 municipalities and 11 out of 12 municipal corporations that went for polls last Wednesday. The main opposition TDP scored a duck as it failed to secure even one municipal corporation.
In Visakhapatnam, the YSRCP emerged victorious by winning 58 of the total 98 wards in the GVMC while the TDP finished second by securing 30 wards, Independents won four wards, JSP won 3 and the CPI, CPI(M) and the BJP won 1 ward each. The GVMC recorded 59.41% polling in the elections held on March 10. Interacting with the media persons, YSRCP MP V Vijay Sai Reddy said that people voted for development and supported the idea of the Chief Minister of making Visakhapatnam the Executive Capital and proved that the opposition is very much wrong in their approach.
Stating further, Mr. Reddy said that the resounding victory in GVMC polls ensures that the people of Vizag have endorsed the idea of three capitals for holistic development. Indeed, the election results reinforced the popularity of the government which has focused on welfare schemes apart from paving the way for the development of the urban bodies.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, MP V. Vijaya Sai Reddy said implementation of most of the promises made in the election manifesto and good governance ushered in during the past 2 years given us the thumbs up across the state in the local body and municipal elections. Definitely, people blessed the YSRCP with a decisive mandate having reposed trust in the slew of welfare schemes implemented in the last 20 months. Further, it is the groundswell of support was an acknowledgment of the government’s policies and it has blown the Opposition away even before it could feel the wind. Exuding confidence, Mr. Reddy said that the decision to set up the Executive capital in the city made the elections more significant and now with an impressive show by the party in the 58 wards civic will propel more development as a Smart city.
