Malkapuram police cracked the refinery material theft case within 24 hours after receiving the complaint. The police arrested seven accused, including three receivers, and recovered the stolen 2.5 tons of material worth Rs. 16 lakh from them. Six of the seven accused were involved in scrap theft cases in Malkapuram and Gajuwaka.
According to the police, the Director of Gopal Technocon S Navin Madhav lodged a complaint on Wednesday that they purchased mechanical seal of engineering items worth Rs. 16 lakh from Sai Tools in Ambernath in Maharashtra on March 26 following an agreement it reached with the Engineers India Ltd for constructions of refinery tankers.
The material was then stacked at the ATP Tank farm area of HPCL. However, the site engineer informed on May 6 that the 2.5 tones of refinery material were stolen by some unidentified persons. A police team led by M Avatharam and D Suribabu after a thorough investigation arrested the accused and recovered stolen property from them. The case was solved within a day.
The arrested were identified as Vadapalli Ramu (24), Asanala Hem Kumar (20), Pindrala Satti Babu (22), and Pendra Ravi (22), and receivers were Vadapalli Praveen (36), Kundrapu Arjun Rao (39) and Kurpudi Rambabu (45). A case under section 380 IPC against the accused has been registered. Further investigation is on.
