The issue of desecration of Lord Rama’s idol at Sri Kodanda Rama Swamy temple in Ramatheertham in Vizianagaram district continues to simmer. A day after YSRCP Rajya Sabha member Vijayasai Reddy and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu visited Ramatheertham, Endowments minister Vellampalli Srinivas and MA & UD minister Botsa Satyanarayana on Sunday visited the temple and inquired with the priests and keepers about the incident.
The small non-descript village, Ramatheertham, turned into a battlefield for political parties on Saturday with the visit of Vijayasai Reddy and Naidu along with their respective huge entourage. BJP activists too took out a protest rally on Saturday which led to a slugfest between the police and their cadres.
Visakha Sarada Peetham pontiff Swamy Swaaroopanandendra on Sunday demanded that the government appoint a fact finding committee on the desecration of idols with a condition to submit the report within a stipulated time. He cautioned that such attacks on Hindu temples will only bring disrepute to the state endowments department which is the custodian of Hindu temples in the state. Condemning the incident, the seer said police miserably failed in preventing such incidents which hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
Minister Vellamapalli Srinivas before proceeding to Ramatheertham visited Sarada Peetham at Pendurthy in Vizag. He had a closed-door meeting with Swamy Sawroopanandendra and sought his blessings. The issue has taken a serious political turn with YSRCP and TDP trading barbs at each other, while the BJP and Jana Sena are planning a massive protest at Ramatheertham on January 5 as a show of strength. Ministers Vellampalli Srinivas, Botsa Satyanarayana and Kodali Nani had accused Naidu of indulging in politics over the desecration of the idol. Kodali Nani demanded that narco analysis test be performed on Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh alleging that they were behind the desecration of idol to gain mileage.
