What could be a better option than preserving pages of age-old books by uploading it on an online platform? With the pages of the old books turning yellow and brittle, members of ‘Katha Nilayam’ are going the digital way by converting all their collection of books and stories on a database. Telugu Kathalu (telugu stories) written by renowned writers will now be easily accessible by telugu literature lovers with only a click away.
Stating that all categories of stories are available online, Subbarao, son of Kalipatnam Ramarao- founder member of Katha Nilayam, said, “Since digitalisation of books is being done on a voluntary basis, it is a time taking procedure to scan each and every page of the book and then upload in the database. As many as 28,000 stories have already been uploaded online and more than one lakh plus books will be uploaded gradually.” “As of now 60,000 plus pages are available online which can either be read or downloaded on any gadget,” added Subbarao.
The works of eminent writers such as Balivada Kanta Rao, Gurajada Apparao, Mullapudi Venkata Ramana, Viswanatha Satyanarayana, Kalipatnam Ramarao and many others can be accessed by book lovers all over the globe. Stories written by famous writers of Visakhapatnam have also been added and few others are on the process of inclusion. Books dating back to the year 1910 and a few clippings can also be referred online.
Subbarao, said, “We found a booklet on how to write short stories dating back to 1934, the pages of which were turning pale. Hence, we had to conserve every page in a plastic sheet, then scan it and upload it.” Katha Nilayam, a library in Srikakulam was set up 20 years back and has now taken an initiative to provide a digital platform to all the story lovers. People can access the stories by typing www.kathanilayam.com.
