And the winner of the Global Teacher Prize 2020 is Ranjit Disale from India. The Indian teacher Ranjitsinh Disale was awarded the Global Teacher Prize 2020 for his contribution to promoting the education of girls. Disale teaches at the Zilla Parishad Primary School in Solapur, Maharashtra. He took on the herculean tasks of translating textbooks into his student’s native language embedding books with QR codes so students could access additional audio and video resources ensuring female students get educated instead of being married early.
As a result of his efforts, the village boasts 100 percent attendance of female students, zero percentage of teenage marriages. He also tutors children from 83 countries in science, online and runs a project to virtually connect youngsters living in conflict zones. The 32-year-old was among 12,000 nominees. The 32-year-old was among 10 finalists and will be awarded USD 1 million, approximately Rs. 7 crores. He has decided to split half the sum among his fellow finalists.
Upon receiving the prize, Disale said “thank you so much for Varkey Foundation, the founder of Global Teacher prize and its partner UNESCO for celebrating teachers in a great manner. And this is such a great honor. And I am receiving this honor on behalf of millions of millions of students, teachers.
