The world economy came to standstill with the pandemic cornavirus infection. Indian Railways continued its efforts for uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to every corner of the country. Apart from serving the nation, several innovative initiatives have taken by Railways to cope up with the crisis.
The Materials Management department of Waltair Division initiated new ways to enhance the earnings through sale of unserviceable materials (Scrap) released from various activities of the railways during the harsh times of Coronavirus Pandemic. The division has sold scrap materials in auction worth Rs. 7.43 Crore in a single day, which is the best ever record in East Coast Railway to achieve this feat. Under the dynamic leadership & able guidance of Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, Divisional Railway Manager and Shri K B Tirupataiah Senior Divisional Materials Manager of Waltair Division the division did lot of exercise to achieve this accomplishment.
The Materials Management department identified all the scrap lying along the track lines and workshops during the lockdown period. Within 15 days after segregating the scrap, the auction was carried out. These auctions were 100% online, where anybody from any corner of the country could participate. Released materials from track such as unserviceable rails were sold in this e-auction.
