The most common symptoms of scrub typhus include fever, a primary lesion headache, body aches, and sometimes rash. It mainly affects the kidney, heart, and liver in the human body. Earlier, this endemic seen in northern Japan, Southeast Asia, the Western Pacific Island, eastern Australia, China, maritime areas, and several parts of south-central Russa, Sri Lanka, and some parts of India.
According to Dr. Vijaya Lakshmi, ADMHO, “Three people died recently in the agency area. Doctors have given treatment in line with COVID 19 though the results of the test came negative. Due to the cropping of a new type of symptoms other than Chikungunya and Dengue, initial studies have been conducted by the district health officials to conclude that it is known as Scrub typhus. However, more studies and research is still going on to know the nature of the bacteria or virus. But doctors believe that if Scrub typhus is detected immediately, it can be treated with a small antibiotic injection. It is not as serious as coronavirus and it will not spread to one person to another person. However, once the expert opinion arrives, we will be well prepared to tackle the disease with appropriate treatment”.
