Born on 8th September 1999, H is from Fazilka, Punjab and his father Lakhwinder Singh is an agriculturist who wanted to become a cricketer but fate did not allow him to do so. Instead, it made sure his son would become one of the most searched names in Indian Cricket. Shubham’s father knew of his skills and helped him hone them from a young age. He would make Shubham practice on the farmland they owned, and when convinced of his skills, they moved to Mohali and rented a house near the PCA Stadium so that Shubham could learn and practice easily.
Shubham’s love for cricket is so immense that when he was a kid, he would often sleep with his bat and ball. He made his List A debut for Punjab in 2016-17’s Vijay Hazare Trophy and made his first-class debut for Punjab during the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy tournament. In a second class match, the same year, he scored a maiden century batting for Punjab against the Services Cricket Team.
In January 2018, he was bought by KKR for 1.8 crores in the 2018 IPL Auction and made his T20 debut for KKR in the same year. His consistent performance time and again caught the eye of many experts and in 2019, he had scored 990 runs in first-class cricket from 14 innings across 8 matches.
Internationally, he has helped India many times and was a part of the Indian U-19 series win against England U-19. He was added to India’s squad for a limited-overs leg against New Zeland. In August 2019, Gill became the youngest batsman for an Indian team to score a double century in a first-class match. He was 19 years and 334 days old. In 2021, he helped decisively to win against Australia at Gabba as the young Indian Team went and defeated Australia right in their backyard. If this is not called perseverance, then what is?
