Visakhapatnam district witnessed a spike of more than 100 new cases in a single day after several months and one person died due to Covid-19 on Wednesday against 81 cases on Tuesday. The sudden surge in the number of coronavirus cases has caused concern among people and officials. Till now, 61,258 coronavirus cases were reported in the district. Currently, there are 436 active cases in the district.
Addressing a virtual meeting, Collector V Vinay Chand said extensive vaccination will help check vaccination. He said mandal level task forces, headed by tahsildars, should chalk out plans to take up vaccination. He said a roadmap has been prepared for the next 15 days. The village and ward secretaries should be taken as a unit for speedy vaccination.
A special drive for vaccination will be launched on Thursday and primary health centers (PHCs) should play a key role in the drive, he said. While a senior official will be appointed as a nodal officer at the mandal level, daily schedules should be prepared in ward and village secretariats and door-to-door surveys be taken up. The Collector said more cases were being reported in urban areas than rural areas. He said the teams comprising ANMs, Asha workers and volunteers will conduct a door-to-door survey two days before vaccination to ensure everyone is covered under the vaccination programme.
Sites for vaccination should be identified within the secretariat area. He said vaccination sites should have electricity, ambulance, internet, and AEIF kits. There will be four counters at each vaccination site and there should be a medical officer to issue BP and diabetes certification. Necessary refrigeration systems for vaccines should be made available at the sites, he said. After vaccination the people should stay in the observation room, adding there are beds for Covid-19 patients. Those who need treatment should be admitted to the hospital. ANMs and Volunteers should monitor the health status of the infectees and provide home isolation kits. An extensive campaign to be taken up on CAB.
