As per the directives of Ministry of Railways, Waltair Division of East Coast Railway observed ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ – 15 days cleanliness campaign and special drives, over the Division from September 16th to 30th September. Officers and Staff from various departments took part in this mission to ensure the spirit of cleanliness drive.
As a part of this Pakhwada , the Division has organised various special drives on different days such as Swachh Awareness, Swachh Samwad (Cleanliness dialogue/ In-house), Swachh Stations (Clean Stations), Swachh Railgaadi (Clean Train), Swachh Parisar(Clean Residential Premises), Swachh Ahar, Swachh Neer (Clean Water), Swachh Competition and Review/Briefing.
On the eve of Swachch Samwad, the Divisional officers conducted cleanliness awareness campaigns at various stations. Web-seminars were also organised on Sanitation and upkeep of railway premises. Scouts & Guides, Unions and staff took part in cleanliness drives at their nearest railway stations. During these drives Passengers and Stakeholders were interacted to create awareness on cleanliness.
Further, the awareness drives continued by displaying Anti-littering notices at Railway premises like at Railway Stations, Colonies, Rest Houses, Dormitories, Running Rooms and at Health Units. While interacting with the rail users by officers & staff, good response/feedback got from them on sanitation and hygiene. To propagate the awareness Public Announcements Systems were used by playing audio jingles and announcements.
Apart from the campaigns, the Division also took intensive Cleanliness drives at major and minor stations. Railway fraternity joined hands to clean the railway station premises, colonies & workplaces over the Division. Separate dustbins were provided for segregation of waste as bio-degradable and non-biodegradable garbage. Use of Plastic at stations was discouraged and efforts were made to ensure stations as “zero waste”/ litter-free stations. Public were counselled to desist from open defecation in railway premises or on tracks.
To ensure Clean & Hygienic food to the passengers Swachch Ahar drives conducted at catering units, canteens and in Pantry cars. Intensive inspections of all water installations including filter plants, sources of water supply, water taps for drinking water at stations as well as in trains were conducted to ensure Swachch Neer to rail users.
To ignite and inspire young minds, Painting & Poster competitions, debate on the theme of cleanliness was organized for school children and trophies presented to winners and certificates to participants.
On conclusion day of Swachchata Pakhwada, Divisional Railway Manager Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava said that Swachchta is continuous process and one should inculcate it from childhood. He urged the public to keep the railway premises clean and shoulder responsibility to make India clean. He said that media of this region has always supported the Swachchata mission with true spirit so as to propagate the message to all the citizens and rail users in particular.
