Takedown Telugu Movie ‘V’ from Amazon Prime: Mumbai High Court

Close on the heels of online streaming giant Amazon Prime issuing an apology for hurting the viewer’s sentiments through its web series ‘Tandav’, the Bombay high court on Wednesday directed the OTT platform to take down Telugu movie ‘V’ which was released on 5th September 2020, wherein the Venkateshwara Creations Pvt Ltd depicted the image of Sakshi Malik from the Instagram account without her consent.

While hearing a defamation suit filed by a Mumbai-based actor Sakshi Malik, the High Court observed that “The fact that the image has been illicitly used is bad enough. It only makes matters worse when used in a plainly derogatory and demeaning vein.” Accordingly, the court directed Amazon Prime to take down the movie within the next 24 hours and asked the production house to completely delete all the images of the plaintiff actor used in the movie.
