Almost all doctors are asserting that adhering to all safety measures is the only way to beat the present wave of Covid-19 and appealed to people to prefer Tele / Video consultations for safety and protection purposes.
On the impact of the corona second wave, Dr. Ch. Monoj Kumar, Manipal Hospital, said, “Every age group is affected in the present wave, especially the 15-30 years of age group. There has been a significant effect of Covid-19 in the second wave on children and elder people as compared to last year. Requirement of oxygen is greater due to the effects on the lungs.”
Dr Monoj Kumar said that diarrhea is the most common symptom in the second wave. He suggested that people should prioritise RT-PCR tests for Covid-19 testing and not be dependent on home testing kits or Antigen tests as the results may not be as accurate. He stated that patients who have to undergo dialysis or chemotherapy should not restrict their treatment schedule as it may have a very serious outcome.
Dr. Sudhakar Kantipudi, director of Manipal hospital, said that people should give preference to consult a doctor online before visiting the hospital as it would help get timely consultations for early symptoms. He urged people to look out for persistent headaches, weakness, body pains, conjunctivitis, cold, cough, fever and breathlessness, which are the most prominent symptoms in the present wave. He said that their hospital was seeing close to 200 Covid+ every day and is carrying out close to 600 tests each day.
