The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has created a global health crisis that has had a deep impact on the way we perceive our world and our everyday lives, not only the rate of contagion and patterns of transmission threatens our sense of urgency, but the safety measures put in place to contain the spread of the virus also require social distancing by refraining from doing what is inherently human, which is to find solace in the company of others.
Within this context of physical threat, social and physical distancing, as well as public alarm, Public Relations Society of India (PRSI)- Visakhapatnam Chapter in association with Regional Outreach Bureau, Regional News wing, All India Radio, Visakhapatnam organised National webinar on ‘The role of Media in the pandemic- Covid-19 ‘ here today.
Participating as a key note speaker, Prof. DVR. Murthy, Chairman Board of Studies, Journalism and Mass communication department, Andhra University said media should be more cautious while reporting Health related issues to the People as it creates more ambiguity about the pandemic. Underscoring the role of media during this Covid-19, Prof Murthy said need of the hour is factual reporting in order to avoid confusion among public for the betterment of society. He stated that Prime minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives are boon to migrant workers and poor people who became jobless in Lock Down Period.
Shri D.Murali Mohan, Additional Director General, ROB, Andhra Pradesh while giving welcome address told that truth alone triumph with the authentic information to people during this pandemic. Stating further Mr. Mohan said special package of Rs. 20 crores to improve the economic situation in times of Covid-19 is highly commendable.
