At a time when the entire India is celebrating with “Tika Utsav” which started on the 11th of April and will continue till 14th April, the Visakhapatnam district administration canceled the ‘Tika Utsav” due to the non-availability of vaccines amid the surging of the second wave. Within this fiasco, those who have had their first shot a month or more ago are now worried whether they will be able to take the second dose on time.
When contacted by Hello Vizag, Dr. P.V. Sudhakar, COVID-19 Special Officer for Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts, and District Medical and Health Officer P. Suryanarayana, have confirmed that the vaccine stocks in the district have been exhausted.
Understanding the travails of the general public who want to take a jab, especially senior citizens, Dr. Sudhakar said “We are expecting fresh vaccine stock to arrive in a couple of days. And those who have taken the first shot need not worry as a few days delay in taking the second dose is unlikely to reduce the efficacy of the vaccine.”
Stating further, he said that there is no compulsion that a person, who has taken the first shot at a particular hospital, should take the second one at the same place. Because wherever he goes for the second dose, uploaded details like vaccine name, patient name, date of vaccination and schedule for the second dose are uploaded on the Co-Win app, the details can be accessed by all the hospitals.
