After it was announced by producers Allu Aravind, Namit Malhotra, and Madhu Mantena way back in May 2017, there has not been much headway on the three-part live-action Ramayana series with an assigned budget of Rs 500 crore. To be released in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil, Dangal-fame Nitesh Tiwari, and Ravi Udyawar, who earlier directed Sridevi-starrer Mom, were attached to the project as directors.
In fact, last year there were reports that the project was put on hold after the producers failed to get the nod of several A-list actors to play lord, Rama. However, in a fresh development, we’ve learned that the project is very much on. Trivikram Srinivas, who shares a great professional and personal relation with Allu Aravind, has been tasked to write the Telugu dialogue, and guess what, he has almost completed his work. The wizard of words is known for his expertise on Gita and Ramayanam.
“The Coronavirus induced lockdown provided Trivikram the opportunity to work on the screenplay of Ramayana. Although it remains to be seen whether the initial plan of making it a three-part film is still on, one thing’s for sure is that Trivikram has readied close to three-hour material. The Hindi and Tamil version will be based on what he wrote for the Telugu version,” a source close to the director tells us.
