Released amid great expectations, Uppena on Friday collected a share of Rs 9.3 crore, setting a positive precedent for the weekend. The impressive content aided by a super hit soundtrack meant that the film consolidated on his positive word-of-mouth on the second day as well, registering a share of 6.9 crores.
Overall, the first two days’ collections stand at Rs 16.2 crore. The number is quite impressive for a feature starring debutants. At this rate, most of the distributors will see profits from Monday, while the producers have already made profits before release. With the industry going through a crisis for almost 10 months due to COVID-19, Uppena’s revenue has proved that the audiences are ready to get back to the cinemas if they are delivered good content.
Directed by Sukumar’s assistant Buchi Babu Sana, Uppena tells the story of a fisherman’s son Aasi (played by Vaishnav Tej) falling in love with the daughter (Krithi Shetty) of an influential man Rayanam (Vijay Sethupathi) who comes from an upper caste. The price Aasi pays over it forms the crux. The film’s climax, especially, received great plaudits from the people who’ve watched it so far.
