Rajya Sabha MP and National General Secretary of YSR Congress Venumbaka Vijayasai Reddy said medical college and other institutions with all requisite infrastructure would reality soon in the near future at Visakha Institute of Medical College, located on the National Highway close to Dairy Farm in Visakhapatnam. The hospitals have been offering treatment to the critical cases coming from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari and Visakhapatnam.
The MP, along with Minister for Tourism Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao, Lok Sabha MP MVV Satyanarayana, Collector, and other officials visited VIMS on Tuesday. VIMS is the top COVID hospital in north Coastal Andhra treating critical COVID patients from the three districts of the region. Lauding the yeoman services being rendered by the doctors, nurses, and other staff at the hospital, Vijaysai Reddy said it was the vision of Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who had a mission to establish medical facilities at strategic points of the State.
After his untimely demise, the hospital was neglected and at one stage the previous government wanted to privatize the institution, he reminded. “Now we are focusing on VIMS and we are planning to establish a medical college and some key research institutions at the campus,” Vijaysai Reddy said. He said VIMS now has 302 beds with 12 ICU wards having 16 beds in each ward and 10 isolation wards. Praising the endeavors of VIMS director Dr. Satya Vara Prasad, the MP said working for six hours wearing PPE kits was no mean task. All the posts of doctors, nurses, lab technicians, and data entry operators would be filled soon, he added. The MP also visited King George Hospital and other COVID hospitals in the city.
