In a bid to intensify the ongoing agitation against the proposal of privatization of the RINL Visakhapatnam Steel plant, the recognized Steel Employee Union, affiliated to CITU, served a strike notice to the management of the RINL on Thursday.
In the 14-day notice served under sub-section(i) of section 22 of Industrial Disputes Act of 1947 and addressed to the chairman and managing director of RINL, the union demanded to cancel the approval given for 100 percent strategic sale of RINL by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on January 27, 2021, scrap the inter-secondaries group constituted to study the MoU signed with POSCO on 23 October 2019, to a JVC for construction of integrated steel plant, suspend the recently concluded MoU with NBCC on redevelopment and monetization of land parcels at Mddilapalem in Visakhapatnam and to provide permanent employment to all the left of R Card holders.
The Union leaders said they would go on strike on or after March 25. The leaders of most of the steel plant employees’ unions signed the strike notice. Meanwhile, the relay hunger strike launched by Visakha Ukku Parirakshna Porata Committee resumed on Thursday morning. Most of the plant and other trade unions’ employees took part and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The employees thanked Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao, actor Chiranjeevi, Telangana MLA Seethakka and Swami Swaroopanandendra Moha Swamy for going against the privatization move of the central government. At the striking venue, employees garlanded the portrait of Telangana minister KT Rama Rao for announcing support to the ongoing agitation. Chalking out the next programme, the committee said the employees and their families would stage a mass dharna at the steel plant’s main gate on March 20 and mass organizations and others would join another dharna on March 23 and March 28.
