Visakhapatnam district recorded more than 1,000 Covid-19 cases for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday. The district reported 1,082 new cases on Wednesday, taking the cumulative active cases to 8,740. The district also recorded five deaths on the day.
There are 8,790 active cases against 8,740 on Tuesday and 7,770 on Monday. As many as 605 patients recovered on Wednesday taking the total number of recoveries now stands at 68,901 against 67,486 on Tuesday and 66,980 on Monday, according to AMC principal Dr. PV Sudhkar in a statement here on Wednesday.
The total number of registered in the district has gone up to 77,428. As many as 5.67 lakh persons have been vaccinated in the district till now. A special drive was also organized to cover the people scheduled for the second dose of the vaccine.
There are 30,000 Covishield and 16,000 Covaxin doses available in the district. Till now 86 percent of health staff were given vaccines and 97 percent of frontline workers were given a second dose of vaccine. The vaccination drive will continue to complete the second dose of the vaccines before taking up the first dose drive, sources said.
On the day, GVMC Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari visited the vaccination centre at Swarna Bharati Stadium. She asked people to utilise the opportunity for vaccination. She urged people to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.
