N Usha, one of the best boxers from India with two silver in the Worlds and gold in the Asian championship, has now been nominated for the Dhyan Chand award. The Boxing Federation of India recommended her for the Dhyan Chand Award.
Adding feathers to her cap, this young woman has been credited with 11 international medals and 12 National medals in her career.
To her medal tally, she dragged 4 gold, 5 silver, 2 bronze at the International level, 9 gold, 3 bronze medals at the National level apart from various medals to her credit. Usha was also a six-time senior national champion from 2004-2010.
This young champion who is a Vizag-based boxer was with the Indian senior women’s team as a coach for a long and now, she is the coach of the Indian Railways women’s team. The biggest disappointment in her career was when she missed the 2012 London Olympics because of knee surgery and neck injury.
Usha, said, “I dedicate this award to my parents Venkatramana and Uma Maheshwari and brother Satish Kumar for their immense support in my formative years. These awards for us (women boxers) should also motivate many girls to look to boxing as a career and dream big.”
Usha is now presently working in the Diesel Loco Shed of Waltair Division, East Coast Railway is now Indian Railways Women’s Boxing Team Coach.
