The Visakhapatnam police cracked a major gold theft that took place at a beachside resort and recovered 530 grams of gold worth Rs. 30 lakh. One burglar was arrested in this connection. The arrested person was identified as 29 years old Pokathota Gangadhar.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, Manish Kumar Sinha, Police Commissioner of Vizag, said that Gangadhar had been in prison for a different crime. Soon after his release, Gangadhar planned to scale the resort wall and steal ornaments and valuables during a marriage function in the resort. A clue left by the thief helped the cops crack the case after four weeks of manhunt. To solve the case, the cops visited various places in Andhra Pradesh and other states as well.
The burglary incident took place on December 24 in a well-known resort near Rushikonda beach in the wee hours when the family members and relatives of the bride were asleep. Mr. Sinha said that they have solved the case with technical evidence and he appreciated the efforts of his team. The accused Gangadhar, an orphan, is a native of Vijayawada city and had worked as a waiter in a restaurant in Vizag. He was involved in 18 property offenses when arrested.
ACP (Crime Wing) D Sravan Kumar said that initially they did not get any clue and the investigation took many days to identify the accused. Some clues helped the police to crack the accused. Finally, they nabbed the accused and recovered 530 gms of gold and have to recover over 60 gms of gold, which was pledged with a gold finance firm, he added.
