Operation Muskaan launched by the district and city police along with the Integrated Child Development Society (ICDS) and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) rescued children by conducting raids at several places. A total of 179 children were rescued, including 62 girls. Keeping in view of the Covid-19, the police distributed masks and sanitizers to the children who were found begging or engaged in daily labour.
This campaign is part of a broader effort ‘Operation Muskaan,’ – an initiative by the Union government to trace, rescue and rehabilitate missing children. Operation Muskan launched under the supervision of Police Commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha, about 200 police personnel from all the police stations were formed into 66 teams and took part in the operation. The police teams traced child laborers, homeless children at bus stands, religious places, railway stations, and other public places and get their Covid-19 tests done in nearby hospitals.
