Visakhapatnam and Kakinada ranked in two categories while Tirupati in one, in the final rankings list of Ease of Living rankings and municipal performance Index for 2020 announced by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday. Visakhapatnam stood 9th in the municipal performance index with a 52.77 score in the above one million population category and 15th in the Ease of Living Index in the same category. Tirupati got the second rank in the municipal performance index with a 51.69 score and Kakinada the 11th rank with a 46.89 score in the ‘below one million population category.
Ease of living index is aimed at providing a holistic view of Indian cities – beginning from the services provided by local bodies, the effectiveness of the administration, the outcomes generated through these services in terms of the liveability within cities and, finally, the citizen perception of these outcomes. The key objectives of the ease of living index are – generate information to guide evidence-based policymaking, catalyze action to achieve broader developmental outcomes, assess and compare the outcomes achieved from various urban policies and schemes and obtain the perception of citizens about their view of the services provided by the city administration.
Speaking to Hello Vizag, a senior official of Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation said that “we did the best in meeting all the parameters set by the ministry with regard to providing services from water supply to other basic services. We will keep improving every year to get a better ranking.
