Vizag recorded the lowest single-day spike of cases in May

Visakhapatnam district on Friday recorded a sharp dip in the number of new Covid-19 cases. The district reported 1,145 new infections against 1,434 on Thursday. Incidentally, this was the lowest number of new cases in May.

The virus claimed 10 more lives on the day, taking the number of fatalities to 884, according to AMC principal PV Sudhakar in a statement here. The district also saw a decline in the number of active cases. There are 16,980 active cases against 18,169 on Thursday and 18,928 on Wednesday. AS many as 2,324 patients were discharged on Friday taking the number of recoveries to 1,17,211. The cumulative tally of Covid cases reached 1,35,075.

New 50 bed isolation centre inaugurated

Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao on Friday inaugurated a 50-bed isolation centre in Avanti Junior Colege in Pendurthi. Pendurthi MLA Annam Reddy has set up the centre with the help of Adip Raju to support the corona victims. The minister also instructed the authorities to complete the vaccination process at the earliest.

The minister also inspected food given to Covid patients. Meanwhile, the Srikakulam district recorded 897 new positive cases. The total number of active cases reached to 11,267. O them 8,921 are in home isolation, 957 others are lodged at Covid Care Centres.
