Visakhapatnam district on Wednesday recorded a further drop in the number of active Cvid-19 cases. The district has 18,928 active cases against 19,150 on Tuesday and 19,350 on Monday. The district also reported a marginal dip in the number of new cases. On the day, 1,800 persons tested positive for the virus. Earlier, the district recorded 1,840 cases on Tuesday.
The total number of positive cases in the district reached to 1,32,496. Meanwhile, the virus claimed eight lives on Wednesday, taking the number of fatalities to 863, according to AMC principal PV Sudhakar in a statement here.
As many as 1,384 patients were discharged on Wednesday against 2,031 on Tuesday. The total number of recoveries reached to 1,12,075 on the day. Meanwhile, the police on Wednesday stepped up vigil to control the spread of coronavirus. The police enforced curfew guidelines and erected barricades to regulate the traffic movement.
As many as 48 persons were booked for violation of curfew regulations. Similarly, 51 persons were fined for not wearing masks. Challans were levied on 1,536 vehicles at public places, commercial complexes and hotels. IN all, 516 persons were booked for curfew violation from May 5 to 26. As many as 1,246 booked for not wearing masks during the same period.
