In a bid to make the Vizag, popularly called as ‘city of destiny’ into ‘Mini Luxembourg’ and strengthen the scope of 4.0, technology, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is set to open two Centres of Excellence (CoE) in Visakhapatnam.
The CoEs will be equipped with technology-related research for start-ups selected by the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) under the Generation Next Incubation Scheme and will help make their products more innovative and commercially viable. The officials from the STPI confirmed that the first centre will come up at the Vizag Steel Plant jointly with Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited and Andhra Pradesh government while the second one will be opened within the Andhra University (AU).
Speaking to Hello Vizag MP Dubey, Joint Director and Visakhapatnam STPI in–charge said “the incubation centre for startup in the steel plant is the centre inside the steel plant is exclusively meant for Technology 4.0, there would be research related to different technologies at the centre inside AU. The main focus will be on technology 4.0, and to transform into a ‘mini Luxembourg’
With funds from Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (Rusa) funds, the incubation centre for startup within the Andhra University premises will come up inside a four-storied building called Gandhi Bhavan, which is named under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Another incubation centre for a start-up will come up in a three-storied building with 6,000 square feet of built-up area. As usual Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited is always at the forefront when it comes to utilisation of latest technologies and improving productivity, safety, and environment of the organisation. Towards this end, it is keen to take the lead on the Centre’s Atmanirbhar Bharat drive to make India self-sustainable and reduce import of Industry 4.0 equipment.
“At the same time, we are going to support start-ups to provide industry connect (in order) to develop Industry 4.0 products for Vizag Steel where there is an opportunity for improvement. With this kind of start-ups along with the industry mentors, a lot more help will be extended not only to RINL but also to other industries such as HPCL, NTPC, BARC in a big way” told RINL spokesperson.
