The Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), Andhra University organised a National Webinar on “Navaratna Welfare Schemes in Andhra Pradesh:
Marching towards Inclusive Development”. Chief Guest on the occasion, Prof.P.V.G.D.Prasad Reddy, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Andhra University inaugurated the Webinar. Addressing the participants, Prof. Reddy stated that the Navaratna welfare schemes such as Rythu Bharosa,Fee Reimbursement, Arogyasri, Jalayagnam, Ban on Alcohol, Amma Vodi, Asara, Cheyutha, Housing and Enhancement of Pensions are benefiting the poorest of the poor in the State.
He lauded the efforts of Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh who has introduced new policies in additioin to continuing the policies of his father, Late Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, Former Chief Minister. Prof. Prasad Reddy mentioned that these schemes are novel and stand as an example to other States to implement and some of them are following the Andhra Pradesh model. The implementation of these schemes in the State are bringing cheers in the lives of the poor and needy people, said Prof. Reddy. Referring to the government reforms in education sector, Prof. Reddy stated about complete fee reimbursement for students which has been further strengthened now to reach to all the poor and weaker sections.
Guest of Honour on the occasion, Sri V.Reddy Lakshmana Reddy, Chairman, A.P.State Liquor Prohibition Awareness Committee, Guntur in his address stated that the Government of Andhra Pradesh established Liquor Prohibition Committee was constituted in October, 2019 and that they are committed to bring awareness in the community towards prohibition. Addressing the participants, Principal, Andhra Medical College, Prof.P.V.Sudhakar highlighted the genesis, benefits an implementation of the YSR Aarogyasri
scheme in AP.The seeds for this scheme were sown by Late Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy and the watering to the plant is being done by Sri Jagan Mohan Redddy, noted Prof.Sudhakar.
According to him, this health coverage scheme was extended to even private hospitals for the benfit of the poor patients. More than 200 ailments including serious diseases affecting heart, kidney, cancer, brain, general surgery, neurosurgery, burns and accident schemes. Sri.V.Visweswara Rao, Project Director, DRDA,Visakhapatnam explained the implementation of rural development schemes in each district. Earlier, Dr.P.Subba Rao, Director of the Centre welcomed the Guests and outlined the aims of the Webinar.
